The briefing included a panel discussion on the current landscape in perinatal health and evidence-based strategies for supporting families. The panel featured three perinatal health experts:

  • Ilisa Stalberg, SAC Public Co-Chair and Director of the Family and Child Health Division at the Vermont Department of Health, who spoke about the overall system of perinatal supports and opportunities for intervention
  • Amy Wenger, Maternal Child Health Clinical Manager at the Franklin County Home Health Agency, who described her experience as a home visitor, with particular attention to families with substance use disorder
  • JennRose Milbrodt, mother of four, who shared her experiences with a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMAD) and with accessing services and supports

BBF’s Data Team also shared highlights from the report, including data on housing and homelessness, child welfare, children with mental health conditions, exclusionary discipline, child care and UPK enrollment, and third grade reading proficiency.

We look forward to providing robust, up-to-date data on the well-being of young children and families to Vermont’s policymakers, educators, caregivers, health practitioners, business leaders, and community members throughout the year.

Please feel free to share The State of Vermont’s Children: 2023 Year in Review and the recording of yesterday’s briefing.
