Orleans and Northern Essex Recap, May 2019

“Families and Communities play a leading role in children’s well-being” seemed to be a theme during April and May in the ONE BBF Region!

The Council coordinated the annual “Dabble Day” event, where young children had an opportunity to learn while having fun participating in a variety of activities hosted by community partners.  There were also resources for parents.

On May 2, the Council assisted the North Country Supervisory Union Early Childhood programs in sponsoring the annual “Celebrate Young Children Parade” in Newport.  Almost 200 parents, children, childcare providers and preschool programs turned out for the parade and a variety of fun indoor activities (due to the rainy conditions) at the Newport City Municipal Building.

BBF Council members and other area service providers joined the North East Kingdom Provider Association to host the annual “Child Care Provider Appreciation Dinner” on May 6.  The event included table displays of resources, appetizers, a dinner and a “quarter raffle”.  All attendees received a gift in appreciation for their commitment to quality care for young children in our community.

In Barton, at the Central Orleans Family Education Center (COFEC), the building was  transformed for the evening of May 9 into an art gallery to display the creative artwork of the preschool children. Hundreds of pieces of art, in a variety of artistic mediums, were displayed, and provided the children the opportunity to proudly show parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers their artwork!  Approximately 200 community members attended.  Our BBF Council helped to promote the event to the community.

Upcoming BBF Regional Council Meetings:

The next BBF Regional Council meeting is scheduled for Monday June 3, 2019 at the Goodrich Memorial Library in Newport from 1-2:30.  Staff from the Vermont Department of Health will be doing a presentation on the use of marijuana during and after pregnancy.  There is no Council meeting scheduled for July, and meetings will resume on Monday August 5.
