Building Bright Futures Request for Proposal
WordPress Contractor

Release Date: September 7, 2023
Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning on September 18.

Building Bright Futures is seeking an independent WordPress contractor for a complete rebuild of buildingbrightfutures.org and vermontkidsdata.org

This RFP is for design and development services for rebuilding and updating the websites for Building Bright Futures – Vermont’s Early Childhood State Advisory Council (buildingbrightfutures.org) and Vermont’s Early Childhood Data and Policy Center (vermontkidsdata.org). A contractor who can also offer ongoing maintenance for both websites is preferred. Both rebuilt websites must be launched and functional by June 30, 2024.

The contractor will help BBF reimagine the user experience of these websites as part of our communications strategy.

The goals of the rebuild include:

  • Working with staff and contractors to make improvements to site architecture, streamlining and simplifying the site navigation with an eye toward user experience and highlighting important content
  • Better integrating the two sites (buildingbrightfutures.org and vermontkidsdata.org) so that users can move seamlessly between them
  • Working with a graphic designer and database engineers to present data and information in compelling and interactive ways
  • Ensuring that the data and information on both sites can be easily accessed by multiple audiences, including families and community members. In particular, making vermontkidsdata.org more interactive and accessible
  • Moving both sites to a newer version of WordPress with more functionality that will make it easier and less time-consuming for BBF staff to make website content updates in the future
  • Creating a cleaner, more modern design for both sites while keeping the same colors and branding
  • Improving the photo content on the site using provided photos as well as stock photos as needed
  • Preserving all important content from the existing sites. When there is content that doesn’t fit in obvious ways into the new navigation, this might look like creating back-dated blog posts or archiving content in other ways
  • Engaging with stakeholders to determine what’s working well in the current websites and what could be improved
  • Better integrating our websites with our other communications channels (Constant Contact, social media, press releases, etc.) in order to drive website traffic and improve site rankings
  • Bringing both sites into full compliance with accessibility standards
  • Improving SEO for both sites
  • Updating security and plugins
  • Creating analytics tags for monitoring content engagement
  • Training staff to update the new sites
  • Providing ongoing maintenance
  • Other tasks as agreed upon

The WordPress contractor will work as part of a team that includes BBF’s communications contractor (who will provide project management), BBF staff, and other contractors (graphic designer, database engineers) as needed.

Budget: $15,000 – $18,000, depending on specifics of proposal
