Finance Manager (part-time)

About the position

Building Bright Futures, a Williston based 501c3 organization, is seeking a part-time senior level Finance Manager. The Finance Manager is responsible for managing the Building Bright Futures budget, consisting of multiple federal, state, and philanthropic grants, as well as individual donations. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and Operations Team to oversee all financial management functions of the organization with a focus on budget planning, and finance reporting; preparing all fiscal reports; overseeing the receipt and disbursement of organizational funds and contract budgets; supporting payroll and accounts payable; assisting with the annual organizational audit. 

The Finance Director position is part-time 30 hours/week at $50/hour with a flexible work schedule. This position is based in BBF’s Williston headquarters with the opportunity to work remotely. 

About Building Bright Futures

Building Bright Futures (BBF) is Vermont’s Early Childhood State Advisory Council (SAC) mandated by Vermont’s Title 33 Chapter 46 and the federal Head Start Act. BBF serves as a statewide backbone organization, bringing early childhood stakeholders together to work collectively toward a coordinated, collaborative, and integrated early childhood system. BBF maintains the vision and strategic plan for Vermont’s Early Childhood System. Vermont’s vision for the Early Childhood system is to be an integrated continuum of comprehensive, high quality services that is equitable and accessible and will improve outcomes for each child in the prenatal period to age eight and their family in Vermont. BBF has a multi-tiered infrastructure consisting of 12 Regional Councils and seven committees that move the Vermont Early Childhood Action Plan (VECAP) forward; both of which inform the priorities and recommendations from the SAC. This network links community-based and state level planning and program development with the SAC. 

Desired Expertise
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of budgeting, fiscal management and reporting, and day-to-day accounting operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance
  • A minimum of three years experience in a non-profit grant management (including managing private and public grants management and reporting)
  • Experience in preparation and analysis of fiscal reports and data,
  • Experience preparing for and overseeing an organization audit 
  • Ability to write and speak clearly and concisely on financial and contractual matters
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel spreadsheet software and Quickbooks
Responsibilities Include:

Financials

  • Assist in development of organizational operating budget, including salary projections, based on current and anticipated grant funds
  • Allocate salary, fringe, and expenses monthly to grants and other projects
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including budget-to-actual reports for the entire organization as well as individual grant and project budgets 
  • Report on financial performance regularly to Director
  • Assist the Director with strategic financial management
  • Assist Director in development of budgets and provide support as needed
  • Prepare general journal entries including payroll allocations, indirect allocations, and deferred revenue  
  • Prepare financial reports for Board meetings

Payroll

  • Manage payroll reports including quarterly tax reports 
  • Record payroll journal entries

Grants

  • Partner with Office Manager on grant management
  • Enter grant budgets into QuickBooks
  • Allocate wages across grant budgets
  • Monitor year-to-date actuals to ensure proper spending rate and provide appropriate reports to Director
  • Monitor contract budgets

Audit

  • Ensure Building Bright Futures follows accepted nonprofit accounting practices
  • Coordinate and prepare information for annual organization audit
  • Ensure proper submission of Building Bright Future’s annual 990 
  • Maintain audit records and copies of 990 forms 
Compensation

The part-time Finance Manager position 30 hours a week, $50 per hour
