Building Bright Futures is a nonprofit that works to improve the well-being of each and every child and family in Vermont, from the prenatal period through age 8. We bring together a robust network of policymakers, early childhood professionals, educators, health and mental health providers, business leaders, families, and other stakeholders to share insights and problem-solve through regular meetings of 12 Regional Councils, 7 Committees moving forward the work of Vermont’s Early Childhood Action Plan (VECAP), and a 23-member State Advisory Council. We empower and elevate family and community voices as partners in decision-making. We also centralize and disseminate early childhood data to inform policy through Vermont’s Early Childhood Data and Policy Center at VermontKidsData.org.

About the Position

The Data Coordinator will join BBF’s Data and Policy Team and the Vermont Early Childhood Data and Policy Center at Vermontkidsdata.org to meet our goal of making data-informed decisions in Vermont’s early childhood system. Using evidence to inform policy is a key way to improve the well-being of children and their families across Vermont. Vermontkidsdata.org is a critical tool for answering policy questions by centralizing data from across the complex early childhood system. The Data Coordinator will support BBF in the administration and execution of all data and evaluation activities. Detailed responsibilities are listed below.

The Data Coordinator position is full-time (1.0 FTE) with a competitive salary and flexible work schedule with the potential to be a 0.8 FTE. Candidates need to be available for regular meetings and events during the workday and occasional evenings and weekends. This is a home-based position with the option to work in BBF’s Williston headquarters. The Data Coordinator receives supervision from the Research and Data Director. This is a grant-funded limited service position through 12/31/25.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range $44,000 – $49,000 annually. Benefits include generous paid time off, health insurance, dental insurance, and retirement.

Responsibilities Include:

Support the Data and Policy Team in executing data projects including but not limited to BBF’s keystone report, The State of Vermont’s Children; data dashboards through Vermont’s Early Childhood Data and Policy Center; and Vermont’s Early Childhood Data Development Agenda

  • Support the production of The State of Vermont’s Children annual report: compiling data from national and state datasets, ensuring accuracy of data, updating narratives to reflect current data, and supporting the Data Team in finalizing the report for the annual briefing
  • Support the continual updating of data, indicators, and content on Vermont’s Early Childhood Data and Policy Center through partnership with Agency Data Stewards and the Research and Data Director
  • Collect, vet, and update publications to ensure access to the most recent evidence and data to inform policy
  • Performs data entry and validation to ensure accuracy, completeness and legibility of data. Enter process and data into various databases. Maintains master files.
  • Process data; review reports, tables, and listings; and support the data management process
  • Support the development of data briefs, data requests, and evaluation efforts to support continuous quality improvement (CQI)
  • Support the execution of deliverables under BBF’s federal and state grants (needs assessments, data integration efforts, etc.)
  • Support the implementation of data efforts (surveys, focus groups, interviews), analyses, and interpretation of both quantitative and qualitative data

  • Project Execution: Proven ability to plan work and coordinate multiple complex data projects simultaneously, keep to timelines, carry out task management, and support consistent communication among the Data Team.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to create positive, trusting, professional relationships with diverse colleagues internal and external to the organization. Ability to contribute to preparation and delivery of reports.
  • Problem-solving & Analytical Skills: Support collaborative problem-solving, conflict resolution, analytic thinking, and strategic planning.
  • Team and Action Oriented: Candidates should be able to work as part of a small team in an interative way and have the ability to think strategically with a high degree of creativity, initiative, self-directed problem-solving, and independent judgment.
  • Data: Experience with compiling quantitative and qualitative data and coordinating data projects. Meticulous attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in public health, political science, community development, child development, maternal and child health, social policy, or related field. 
  • Tools: Experience with, or an ability to quickly adapt to and troubleshoot, technology that supports collaborative and virtual work, including Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, Zoom, NVIVO, SurveyMonkey, and WordPress preferred. Willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and methodologies.
