Chittenden Recap July 2019

Chittenden’s BBF Regional Council is focusing on Help Me Grow Outreach efforts this summer. We partnered with Let’s Grow Kids in June to co-host an event for families of Stonewood School North in Shelburne. LGK did a book drive, and we also purchased social emotional themed books, and talked to families about Help Me Grow, Ages and Stages, and promoted the use of the 211 call center. Each family left with a small library to encourage reading and fostering a healthy parent-child bond at home. We also chatted with teachers from the center and many of them took the packets of info for their classrooms as well. We look forward to a variety of other outreach events this month and next, as many family focused activities continue to be offered outside this summer.

The Substance Use Disorder Planning Project has been awarded an implementation grant from the University of Vermont Medical Center’s Community Health Investment Committee. Our goal of serving and better supporting families that are grappling with Substance Use Disorder aligns with the recent Community Health Needs Assessment conducted by the UVMMC, as the two areas of focus will be Mental Health and Childhood/Family Health for the next three years. As we enter our first year of implementation we will be measuring on impact on a few strategies, while continuing the work of fostering better communication across key partners. Our Community of Practice will reconvene in August.

Our Early MTSS leadership met last month and did a great job prioritizing the needs, gaps, and next steps in our region. We have agreed to move forward to offer a minimum of two Module 1 trainings in our region. The first one will take place on August 22 (time & place TBD), and the second in mid October. Interest is very high across partners in the region, and we hope to garner more interest across sectors to create a diverse learning environment. Stay tuned for the registration link to be emailed out soon!

*The Chittenden BBF Regional Council will not meet in August, the next meeting will be 9/5/19.
