Addison County Regional Council Recap – January 2018
Members of the Addison regional council worked with Building Bright Futures (BBF) throughout November and December to hire a new regional coordinator for Addison and Rutland. They met with a stellar group of candidates, and ended up offering the position to Darla Senecal.
Darla most recently served as the Recreation Department Director for the Town of Bristol, having worked for the department for the last 17 years. Earlier in her career, she ran a home-based child care program for four years while her children were young. Darla is an incredibly passionate, energetic, and inspiring champion for children and families, and Addison is excited to have her on board.
At the January regional council meeting, council members met Darla and jumped in to discussions of critical regional projects including the need to coordinate child care capacity building efforts in the region and to build off the momentum of the incredibly successful Addison County Early Childhood Showcase Tours and Forum held in October.
The council also discussed the work of the social and emotional learning leadership team which has been working to align best practice around social and emotional learning across settings throughout the region.
Finally, the council celebrated the return of www.minibury.com, a parent guide to family-friendly events, activities, and resources throughout the region. The website had been without a moderator since August, but is now being coordinated on a volunteer basis by three local parents, including BBF council member Linda January. The council discussed how to keep this wonderful resource up to date going forward without burning out volunteers.
