Southeast Vermont Regional Recap, February 2020

Council Recognitions

At each council meeting, we take 5 minutes to recognize the work of a team or individual for their contributions to our collective work. In 2019 we recognized 4 event organizing teams (Recovery Postpartum Doula training, Month of the Young Child, Early Childhood Mixer, and Windham County Early Childhood Legislative Forum) and 6 individuals for their contributions to the council and the community. It is wonderful to take a moment to recognize teams and individuals, and we also want to thank each and every person working to improve the quality of life for young children, prenatal to age 8, and their families.

The Basics

The momentum is building to create a common language among early childhood professionals using The Basics. In addition to presenting to groups throughout the area, we have been integrating the tips, language, and icons into the Month of the Young Child event brochure, sharing printed materials with new partners like Economic Services and WIC, and developing a social media presence (facebook.com/basicsvt, and basicsvt on Instagram.)

Month of the Young Child

There are already 30 free and family friendly events planned for April’s Month of the Young Child. There are long standing events like the 16th Annual Children’s Art Exhibit, which showcases art from Early Childhood Education programs throughout Windham County and the Family Fun Day at Early Education Services. There are also newer events like Abenaki Storytelling, Superhero Mindfulness, and a Storybook Walk. Events are being added every day and most have details available on the central Facebook page (facebook.com/WindhamMOYC) no need to have an account!
