Donate“This past year, BBF has been critical in engaging diverse partners in legislation to support Vermont’s children. By convening early childhood educators across the field and compiling their comments and feedback into data-based presentations, BBF has informed the Legislature, state-level agencies, school districts, and the general public about the needs and successes for Vermont’s young children.”
—A participant in our 2024 Partner Survey
Here are a few highlights of what we accomplished this year:
- BBF advised Vermont’s Legislature and other decision-makers more than 150 times during the 2023–2024 biennium. Last month, we released 2025 Policy Recommendations and a Policy Playbook detailing what the recommendations mean and some ways they can be put into action.
- BBF and Vermont’s Early Childhood Data & Policy Center launched Vermont’s Early Childhood Data Portal, a searchable online tool for accessing high-quality, up-to-date data on Vermont’s children, families, and early childhood system.
- We published The State of Vermont’s Children: 2023 Year in Review, a data brief on Special Accommodations Grants, and an Act 76 Monitoring Report, and we hosted two Early Childhood Grand Rounds Seminars.
- Our Vermont Early Childhood Fund (VECF) awarded more than $2.6 million in grants through the federal Preschool Development Grant. VECF has awarded more than $5 million in private and federal funds to projects throughout the state since 2021.
- Our Families and Communities Committee launched a Family Leadership Dashboard, and BBF published a report on the results of our 2024 Family Leadership Inventory.
Thank you to all those who helped BBF to support Vermont’s young children and families in 2024. We look forward to another productive year ahead! Please donate today so that BBF can continue using evidence to inform policy and bringing voices of early childhood partners together across sectors and regions.
Testimonials from VECF Grant Recipients
“After introducing Baby Doll Circle, I’ve noticed the children engaging in pretend play more frequently, especially with baby dolls. I’ve also noticed them being more empathetic in general, particularly with their stuffies and other toys. I’m excited to see how their skills grow as we continue our Baby Doll Circle Time routine.” —Lead Teacher at ABC & LOL Preschool & Child Care Center in Caledonia County
“We were able to open a new site in an area that is very underserved, preserve 10 spots, retain two full-time teachers, and expand our hours to offer year-round care… Because of the grant funds, we were able to purchase the materials needed to furnish our new site and, combined with those moved from the original site, are fully equipped with high-quality toys and materials for the children we are serving.” —ECCE provider in Windham County
“Families who have attended peer support sessions have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have someone to talk with, someone who has also had a child in the NICU. Witnessing the experience [that] families have been through with their child can have a profound effect on moving toward healing.” —Support group facilitator in Chittenden County
