The McKinney-Vento Homelessness Assistance Act defines homeless as lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence and includes sharing the housing of other persons, living in temporary housing, and living in places not designed for regular sleeping accommodation. Children and families meeting this definition are entitled to a number of services, resources, and supports from their Local Education Agency.
