April is Month of the Young Child in Windham County

Windham County is working together to make our communities more family friendly. One place where we continue to be successful is the annual Month of the Young Child (MOYC). It’s a time to turn our attention to the many people, places and programs that support the healthy development of our next generation by laying the foundation for their success.

April is Month of the Young Child in Windham County

Join us to celebrate young children and their caregivers in April with free family-friendly activities throughout Windham County, Vermont! Download a printable brochure here or find an event on Facebook to share with your friends.

It’s a time to turn our attention to the many people, places and programs that support the healthy development of our next generation by laying the foundation for their success. The festivities aren’t only about fun, they’re also about learning! We know that about 90% of the brain is developed by age 5 and the first 1,000 days (3 years) are a window of opportunity to invest in the future of our community.

That means that all activities young children engage in – from mundane daily routines like brushing their teeth, to exciting adventures like watching a live puppet performance – can have a lasting impact on their growth and resilience.

There will be singing and dancing, story time and art making, and new this year, an opportunity for families to meet with a financial advisor! Some of our favorite events are returning, including the 15th Annual Children’s Art Exhibit at the River Garden and a whole Free Week at KidsPLAYce.

Month of the Young Child is a wonderful example of a community coming together to celebrate and support children and families. The MOYC core team started meeting months ago and pulled together community resources to bring this month of events to reality. Many organizations were ready for a call about MOYC and are excited about the events and new organizations that have jumped on board with lots of enthusiasm.

This year there are more events outside of the Brattleboro area. We hope that next year we will be able to further grow the representation of all communities across Windham County.

Thank you to the many participating organizations and to our sponsors:
