Springfield Regional Council Recap – March 2018
In February, the Springfield Area Building Bright Futures Council was able to hear updates from each of the Promise Communities in the region (Bellows Falls, Springfield, Mt. Ascutney, and Chester) on what their plans were and how the Council would be able to support the initiatives going forward. Two of these communities are improving playgrounds to be accessible to children of all ages. The communities decided to build on programs that were already happening or ideas that needed a little base funding to help the program begin. Some of these programs include providing a place for children to participate in art, renovating the library to make it more friendly and accessible to children, encouraging health for soon-to-be and new moms, doing a messaging campaign around different ways to read and play with your children, and child care capacity. The Council was also able to provide feedback on the Act 166 legislation through a statewide process facilitated by Building Bright Futures.
The March Springfield Area BBF Council meeting was canceled due to a snowstorm. However, the Council’s subcommittee has continued to meet to prepare for upcoming family outreach events including the Festival of the Young Child, and screenings of the movie “Inside Out” coupled with an educational piece for parents. The Council has continued to strive for ways to create meaningful ways to provide family engagement throughout the region.
