Southeast Vermont Regional Council Recap – January 2018
Building Bright Futures
December and January have been months of transition for the Southeast VT regional council. In December, the council met with Building Bright Futures’ (BBF) Deputy Director, Carolyn Wesley, to discuss key qualifications and characteristics for a Regional Coordinator to replace Chad Simmons, who left his position on December 18th.
Council members worked with BBF staff over the following weeks to create a job description for a part-time, 24-hour per week coordinator position. In addition, the December council meeting included a training on the NEAR (neurobiology, epigenetics, adverse childhood experiences, and resilience) sciences as part of the Building Flourishing Communities initiative. The council discussed who else in the region could benefit from the training and how it might inspire action at the regional level.
The January regional council meeting was organized and facilitated by council Co-Chair, Sue Graff. It included a presentation and discussion of regional and statewide professional development efforts, with representatives from the Windham Early Childhood Educators Co-op, Vermont Birth to Five, and the Community College of Vermont. The council also used the meeting to plan for a legislative outreach event they will host on January 29th to discuss key data and issues impacting early childhood in the region. Vicki Senni of Let’s Grow Kids has been a great partner to the council in helping organize this event while they are between coordinators.
BBF posted the job description for the Southeast VT Regional Coordinator on Jan 11th. More information can be found at http://buildingbrightfutures.org/job-opportunities/. Applications are due February 1st.
