Rutland County Regional Council Recap – January 2018
Members of the Rutland regional council worked with Building Bright Futures (BBF) throughout November and December on the hiring process of a new regional coordinator for Addison and Rutland. They met with a stellar group of candidates, and ended up offering the position to Darla Senecal.
Darla most recently served as the Recreation Department Director for the Town of Bristol, and has worked for the department for the last 17 years. Earlier in her career, she ran a home-based child care program for four years while her children were young. Darla is an incredibly passionate, energetic, and inspiring champion for children and families, and Rutland is excited to have her on board.
At the January regional council meeting, council members met Darla and jumped into discussions of critical regional projects including next steps on strengthening Pre-K to Kindergarten transitions across the region. The council also identified two potential dates in March for their “Just Play No Way” family and community outreach event, which highlights the importance of play in healthy brain development.
For the second half of the meeting, the council heard from Kelly Ault of the Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance. Council members got a refresher on the legislative process, discussed the Alliance’s 2018 Legislative Agenda, and learned about how to connect with key legislators in their region, including how to use data and personal stories in advocacy efforts.
