Regional Council Meetings: At our December 4, 2017 BBF Regional Council meeting, we invited Kelly Ault, Public Engagement Director from the Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance (VECAA), who presented information on the VECAA Legislative Agenda. Additionally, members discussed some challenges with Universal Preschool including discrepancies that folks have heard regarding whether a five-year-old, who is not ready for kindergarten, is able to attend an additional year of preschool. Concerns were also discussed regarding fingerprinting challenges and the streamlining of paperwork.

On January 8, 2018, Becky Millard, Director-CCV Early Childhood Professional Development, joined us to present information on the new early childhood professional development system being implemented.

Our council also continues to focus on child care capacity, Help Me Grow Outreach, and supporting the social and emotional development of young children through our Early MTSS pilot work.

NEK Bright Futures Regional Dinner Event–  Building Bright Futures helped with the coordination of the NEK Bright Futures regional dinner sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics – Vermont Chapter, Vermont Child Health Improvement Project (VCHIP), and the Vermont Department of Health held on December 6, 2017. Held at the Burke Mountain Hotel and Conference Center, 34 medical providers and community partners attended. Participants were introduced to the Bright Futures: Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children, and Adolescents (4th Ed.) as an important resource to individuals who care for children and families in our state. There were rich conversations about how practices/programs were currently promoting developmental and social determinants of health screenings for children across settings. It was a great opportunity to learn from peers while strengthening relationships between clinical providers and community partners to enhance access to community resources.

Dabble Day 2018: Our Annual Dabble Day is scheduled for April 7, 2018 from 9:00 am- 12 noon at the Coventry School. Dabble Day is a fun-filled, resource-rich day for young children birth to eight-years-old and their families.  It is sponsored by Building Bright Futures in collaboration with community partners.
