The Professional Preparation and Development Committee formed after the first Early Childhood Workgroup meeting in 1992. This inclusive statewide workgroup has addressed issues, created resources and highlighted the need for a well-trained early childhood and after-school professional workforce. Its goal is to develop, coordinate and promote a comprehensive system of quality learning opportunities for current and prospective early childhood and after school professionals.

  • Identifies and builds on assets and prioritizes needs  for professional education
  • Aligns professional development initiatives into a coordinated system
  • Advocates for resources and improvements to the system including compensation and professional recognition
  • Fosters collegiality and mentoring and builds a community of learners
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration among colleagues
  • Promotes a culture that values ongoing professional development

To ensure comprehensive coordinated system of quality learning opportunities that give current and  prospective professionals the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and experiences they need to provide the best care and education to children and families in Vermont.
